Corinne Cowling gives a stunning vocal throughout, mastering the score even as her character flits and falters her way through her arc.

About my voice teaching approach

Commencing my career as a ballet dancer, and subsequently gaining extensive performance experience across both opera and musical theatre, my teaching approach has a unique perspective and is heavily influenced by the mind/body connection. I have a multidisciplinary approach, inspired by (but not limited to) somatic release techniques from contemporary dance, mindfulness, Accent Method, Estill, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Janice Chapman’s ‘Singing and Teaching Singing’, Jenevora William’s ‘Teaching Singing to Children and Young Adults’ and Mary Saunders Barton’s ‘Cross-Training in the Voice Studio’.

I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David/The Voice Study Centre where I researched the difference in breathing techniques used for classical ballet and classical voice, muscle tension dysphonia and belting for musical theatre. I enjoy working with dancers, young aspiring singers in musical theatre and opera, with a particular interest in encouraging awareness of vocal health for sustainable and consistent vocal technique. In addition to encouraging a healthy vocal technique, I emphasise the importance of other aspects of singing such as acting through song, musicality, and the implementation of a growth mindset.

I am currently the singing teacher at the Be Training Programme (Northfleet School for Girls), a performing arts programme for Key Stage 5 students preparing for musical theatre college auditions. I also teach private one-to-one singing lessons at The Vocal Coaches, and my own studio ‘Sing with Corinne’, where my students have successfully auditioned for music conservatoire, The Royal Opera House, professional choirs and passed ABRSM grades. Previous singing teaching positions include The Sing Space, Richmond Music Trust and St Anthony’s School for Girls.

In addition, my experience working as a movement director (West Green House Opera, GSMD) has given me the confidence to work with singers from various backgrounds and life experiences, adjusting my approach according to each students’ needs.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN MY STUDio

I am offering one-to-one singing lessons online and in person in my studio in London, UK. I specialise in both classical and musical theatre technique and repertoire, as well as working with dancers, however I work with all ages and all levels. In your lessons, technical aspects such as breath, range, head/chest voice, intonation, resonance, vocal health, mindset and musicianship will be addressed to achieve consistent and sustainable, healthy singing. I have over 10 years of voice teaching experience, am a certified Vocal Health First Aider, and I hold a Postgraduate in Vocal Pedagogy with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David/VoiceWorkshop.

All you need is a water bottle and a smile! I am looking forward to working with you and to embark on your singing journey together. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
